Does PianoRT include Pianoteq?
No. You’ll need your own Pianoteq license from Modartt, unless a bundled arrangement exists later.
Will it work with my digital piano?
We currently guarantee compatibility with digital pianos via the U2Midi Pro interface, which carries MIDI from the piano to Pianoteq. Other class-compliant MIDI gear may work but isn’t guaranteed yet.
Is it silent?
Yes — inaudible at idle and under load on the tested unit.
Does it need a monitor?
Not required to play. By default, PianoRT boots into a stripped Weston (Wayland) session running a minimal Pianoteq interface, so if you do connect a screen, that’s what you’ll see — not a full desktop.
Can it run other VST instruments?
Not yet. PianoRT currently launches Pianoteq as a dedicated standalone instrument. The Linux architecture can support VST3/LV2 hosts in the future — any such build would be retested for latency and reliability before shipping.
What happens after a power failure?
PianoRT boots back into a known playable state automatically.
Is the code open source?
For the Community Edition, yes. The configuration packages and helper scripts are MIT licensed, and the firmware is published with its full source: upstream coreboot with three PianoRT patches, and Linux 7.3-rc6 with one NVMe patch. Everything is on the Community Edition page.
What is the Community Edition?
A free build for the HP Chromebox G3. I publish the configuration packages, the source and my measurements, including where the G3’s 15 W power limit runs out of headroom. It’s an alpha for experienced Linux users, not a product, and it’s separate from the Founders Edition. Details are on the Community Edition page.
Is the Community Edition supported?
Best-effort only, with no warranty. Install reports are welcome at [email protected] with “Community Edition” in the subject. You still need your own Pianoteq license from Modartt, and audio startup doesn’t need an Internet connection.
How does the $100 deposit work?
It reserves your place in the current batch and is refunded automatically if your unit isn’t delivered within 30 days. The balance is arranged directly before your unit ships.
What’s the return policy?
Returns are accepted within 15 days of delivery. The customer covers return shipping. Hardware carries a 1-year warranty.
